Matthias extends the lead - 7 Triton titles, 2 clear of Fedor

Tournament Win - Triton Montenegro 2026

Just two days after our Montenegro festival recap went live, Matthias Eibinger added another one. The Austrian head coach won Event #16 - the $50K PLO Mystery Bounty - for $1,053,000 including $700,000 in bounties. It's his seventh Triton title, his third PLO win on the tour, and it extends his lead at the top of the Pokercode internal leaderboard to two titles.

From 0 cashes to a million in two days

The thing that makes this one special isn't just the trophy - it's the way it happened. Matthias started this festival 0 for 10. Ten tournaments, no cashes. In his entire Triton career, he'd only ever had one stop with zero cashes. This one was about to be the second.

Then Event #12 came - the $150K 10th Anniversary Special. He went into the nine-handed final table as chip leader and busted in 4th for $1,088,000. The PLO Main Event cashed. And then the PLO Mystery Bounty - the next event after - he won.

"The series started very rough. Lifetime, I've had one Triton stop where I had no cashes, and it was about to repeat that in the hold'em section. But in the last one, the $150K, was the saviour. I had a cash of $1 million. PLO Main Event, cashed it. Next PLO event I win it, so I would say it's another pretty good Triton stop for me."

That's the kind of mental game most players never develop. Ten events into a festival with nothing to show. Walking into Event #12 and Event #16 still treating each hand on its own. Not chasing. Not tilting. Just playing the next spot.

The PLO secret

For years Matthias has been known on the Triton tour as a No-Limit specialist. Three of his seven titles are now PLO. That isn't an accident.

"I played a million hands online of short-stack PLO. Some people might not know that, but there's a format called 'All-in or Fold', and I played this in PLO during Covid, two years straight. So I would say that the equities is actually my biggest strength in terms of PLO and from there on I tried to shape a game-plan. Some know it, but many think I'm a complete newcomer."

Million-hand grinds during Covid, an equity-edge in short-stack spots, then a quiet move into live PLO. That's the build behind "sudden" mastery. The reason it's been quiet is because Matthias is still ranked first among Triton's NLH stars - so the PLO results just look like a bonus. But three PLO titles, a 2nd, and a 5th say otherwise. He's one of the best PLO Mystery Bounty tournament players in the world right now, and most of the field is still treating him as the NLH guy.

The internal Triton title race

After Mario's win in Event #3, Fedor's in Event #5, and now Matthias in Event #16, Team Pokercode walked away from Montenegro with three Triton titles in a single festival. The internal leaderboard now reads:

17 combined Triton titles between four Pokercode players. Matthias is back ahead by two and now sits tied with Mike Watson on the all-time Triton multiple-champions list - only Jason Koon (12) sits higher.

Why this run matters to the community

Matthias is one of three head coaches on the platform. The lessons behind this win - the mental discipline to keep playing after 10 zero-cash events, the willingness to gamble correctly when tilted, the years of off-radar PLO study - are exactly the kind of content the community gets to see week in, week out. Not just the trophy lifts, but how someone keeps showing up after starting 0 for 10 at the biggest stop of the year.

This is the third Pokercode trophy from Montenegro alone. We covered the first two and the rest of the team's runs in our full festival recap.

Three titles. One festival. The team isn't done.
