ICM Skill Quiz
Take quizApril is ICM Month and the Pokercode Coaches are hard at work developing priceless content and training material to bring our community as much value as we possibly can. This article will both highlight some of this month’s events so that you can put them on your calendar and give a small recap of some basic ICM concepts from Fedor’s coaching session at the beginning of the month.
We are focusing on ICM in April largely due to the online series taking place, such as the GGPoker Spring Festival and annual PokerStars SCOOP. We are confident that some members of our community will make deep runs and end up playing for life-changing money, and we would love nothing more than for everyone to be as prepared as they can be when that situation arises. Of course, a sound understanding of ICM is one contributing factor.

Sunday, April 4 – Reflecting and Analyzing ICM with Fedor Holz:This event kicked off the month-long training series involving Pokercode Head Coaches Fedor Holz, Simon "IgorKarkarof" Rønnow, and Matthias Eibinger and involved Fedor talking about the concept of ICM from a theoretical perspective. More information regarding this session can be found at the bottom of this post.Pokercode students can watch it on-demand on our study platform.
Sunday, April 11 (3 pm CET) – Preflop ICM with Matthias Eibinger:Matthias has spent hours putting together material regarding preflop ICM situations from which you can learn and apply to your own game in ways that will directly increase your profitability. Matthias has an unmatched work ethic in every aspect of his game, coaching included, and you are going to want to make sure you are present for this session.
Saturday, April 17 (3 pm CET) – Postflop ICM with Simon "IgorKarkarof" Rønnow:The third edition of our month-long series involves Simon taking things into the streets with postflop ICM strategy. Much like the preflop session, you can expect this to be heavy when it comes to providing scenarios and opportunities relevant to your game. Come prepared and ready to be challenged from one of the most successful online MTT players in the world.
Sunday, April 25 (3 pm CET) – Final Table Review with Fedor Holz:For the final Sunday of the month, Fedor is taking things back into his own hands and doing a Final Table review of Pokercode’s very own Community Coach Curtis. We are very excited about the comprehensive review to wrap up all of the concepts discussed throughout the month. Plus, who better to lead this session than the Pokercode Founder himself?
Speaking of Community Coach Curtis, he is also conducting an interactive Quiz Night every Friday throughout April. We highly recommend finding the time for this, or at minimum dropping in if you’re around, especially as it only lasts around half an hour.
To say Curtis has gone above and beyond in creating an atmosphere and chance to learn and test your knowledge would be an understatement, and he touches on all parts of the game including preflop and postflop scenarios. Test your knowledge and interact with others in the community for Curtis’ Quiz Night every Friday at 6 pm CET. It would be hard not to find your time to be worth it here.
If you find yourself longing for more material in between our weekly sessions, you’re in luck as well! On top of Fedor’s ICM content, he is also putting out daily motivational-related content. It’s no secret poker is a grind, and Fedor is here to provide perspective for you, wherever you are in your poker journey.

We want our community to ramp up its activity this month (and beyond), too. As such, we’re encouraging everybody to share hand histories in our community and committing on our end to answering questions for every hand history that is posted.
This month’s online series are sure to present many interesting spots that we can all learn from, coaches included. The only stupid question is the one left unasked, so make sure to take advantage of our coaches’ commitment to the community and ask questions about any spots that you came across where you were uncertain of what to do! After all, no matter where you are in your poker journey, you’re here because you want to learn. We all have that in common.
In Fedor’s first ICM session, some of the ideas he mentioned were how ICM is a simplified model that can help approximate the complex environments found within the game of poker. He looked at times where ICM may or may not be as applicable as others and discussed some potential ways in which exploits can be made within ICM.
Overall, the session was designed to pave the way for upcoming practical examples in future study sessions. The goal was to break down concepts to their most foundational logic and build off of them, using simple examples in order to further understand how they could be applied to more advanced strategies.
